We are at the end of 2012, probably not the end of the world. Today, there are more number of mobile phones than the number of its users. Oh! That means there are many (like me) using multiple phones at a time. But there are more than 12 million Blind people only in India. Did you ever think whaatt about these people? How would they use a mobile device? Finally some Indian mobile manufacturers launched phones for the visually impaired. The first such cell phone was launched by iBall- the iBall Aasaan & the second by Intex Mobiles. The Intex Mobiles calls their phone as the INTEX VISION.

The National Association for the Blind, India (NAB) in collaboration with Intex Mobiles designed this Intex Vision especially for the Blind. It has a huge keypad & a very small screen compared to the phones these days. Well, this serves its purpose. The huge keypad would be useful for the Blind to locate its keys, while the small 1.6 inch screen will just display the actions being performed by the user (though it’s useless for the blind).

The keypad is called BRAILLE Keypad which got its name from its design using the Braille Language to assist the recognition of the digits. Another important feature to help the Blind is the Talking Keypad feature. This gives audio responses to the key press on the keypad. It also has SOS feature. This saves up to 4 numbers which could be used in case of emergency by just pressing the SOS button.

The interface of the phone is much simpler as required. The design work is simpler; not much stressed on. It is available in Black color. The phone seems to be quite thick but small in size {Dimensions- 104 x 49 x 15 mm}. It weighs around 82 grams. It has battery of 800mAh which could last upto 3hours which seems to be too less.

Talking about its other features would surely attract you. It is a Dual-SIM GSM-enabled phone alongwith other features like MP3 player & FM radio (wireless). It also has external SD slot supporting up to 2 GB alongwith memory for records of contacts & SMS. Some important features include mobile tracker, one-key phone lock & auto-call record, while some useless feature include torch-light & Gaming.

Mr. Jha from the Intex Technologies says, “India has the largest number of blind people in the world and NAB is the best platform in the country to reach to them. INTEX Vision is just a small gesture to help empower the visually impaired population by bringing connectivity within easy reach.

This is a better initiative by Intex Mobiles especially for the students & teachers of NAB. Though this phones is dumped with some additional features to match up with today’s world of smartphones. This phone will be available at Rs. 2,600.
