Researchers at the Keio University in Japan have developed system which makes a car look transparent from inside and are just a few steps away from making a fully transparent car.
The system uses a system of cameras which captures the view behind the car and project it on the car’s backseat. The system presents the view taken by 2 cameras. The projection is done using a half-mirror which is made up of recursive material. Projection is done in such a way that the driver gets the feeling as if he could actually see though the car. Also a computer is used for scaling the images so that the objects behind the car look real.
Today, many cars have a camera mounted on the rear bumper which presents the rear view on to the LCD display. Unlike the images displayed on LCD the images presented using this technology have a certain depth which makes the even more lifelike. The researchers have approached manufacturers to implement this technology in their latest cars. If all goes well then in near future the inside of the car will look completely transparent to both, the driver and the riders.
How can this change your life?
- This tech comes to the aid of those who find it very challenging to reverse the car for parallel parking. It can also eliminate the need of taking your head out of the car window to see what’s behind.
- Reversing a vehicle will become a piece of cake in the years to come.
- You can sit in safety of your bulletproof car and see the drug deal going on just behind your car.
This is a fabulous system which addresses to the need of rookie drivers. Years ago, the engineers at Lamborghini solved this problem of reversing a car by introducing scissor doors. You might look pretentious while parking your Lamborghini with the doors upside open but the thrill it provides is far greater than that provided by the cameras.
